Project objective
1) CHIRAL SYMMETRY BREAKING IN OCD. As a work programme I am proposing the calculation of the couplings entering in the chiral expansion of the effective low energy QCD. The method to be used will be a combination of ordinary perturbative as well as variational technique. The first coupling, namely the pion coupling constant, was calculated in a previous work and the calculation of the others will be a difficult but straightforward task. The above method can be compared and-or combined with other well-established methods such as Sum-Rules, Lattices, Chiral-Expansions and used as a powerful tool towards the understanding of low energy QCD. 2) LIGHT-CONE CONSTRUCTION OF THE TWO DIMENSIONAL STRING THEORY. Work on the explicit construction of the discrete states in the light-cone gauge is currently under way. For instance one can use BRST techniques to calculate the physical spectrum in this gauge or alternatively make use of the mapping between conformal and light-cone variables and map the already known states of the conformal onto the light-cone gauge.
