Project objective

Research objectives and contentThe first research objective is to develop a random multiaxial fatigue life prediction procedure with finite-elements. The second one is to integrate the statistical scatter of the material behaviour and the sequence effect of the loading into the fatigue assessment method. The fatigue life duration of a structure submitted to random vibrations and an interval of confidence on this prediction will be computed after a dynamic finite-elements analysis. The content of this work can be divided into three topics:- structural dynamic spectral and temporal response of a structure to a random excitation,- materials sciences: physical aspects of the fatigue damage under multiaxial fluctuating stresses,- availability: interval of confidence on the evaluated life durationTraining content (objective, benefit and expected impact)The aim of this training is to achieve a level of expertise in the above-mentioned fields and to obtain a PhD. The programmes developed will be integrated in the Finite-Elements software SAMCEF Transportation, aerospace and energy industries need more and more such calculation tools to optimise mechanical structures and their reliability.Links with industry / industrial relevance (22)I carried out an exploratory work in this field within the frame of a research contract of l6 months, between the Société Européenne de Propulsion and the Université Libre de Bruxelles. The previous research performed at the ULB in random fatigue has also been carried out in collaboration with industry.
