Project objective
An important requirement on homogenous-catalytically active species is the hemilability of a ligand. Concentrating on late transition metals this will be fulfilled by ligands containing hard Lewis bases. The objective of the following research project will be the synthesis of mono- as well as bimetallic platinum compounds with bidentate hybridligands possessing one hard and one soft Lewis base donor. The advantage of using such bidentate ligand systems is that it will be bound strongly to the metal even if the hard donor function is temporarily not coordinated. Therefore the coordination chemistry of hetero-fictionalized oxazolines will be studied. Their chemistry with late transition metals is a fast developing research topic, but the coordination at platinum centres in particular has - with some rare exceptions -not been examined till today. The whole project is composed of two related parts: The first part concentrates on coordinating fictionalized oxazoline ligands in mononuclear platinum(II) complexes. The synthesis of square-planare complexes with at least one silyl group at the platinum will be investigated and their properties in terms of insertion of alkenes/alkynes into the Pt-Si-bond will be studied. The second part aims at bimetallic iron-platinum complexes with the bidentate ligands bridging the two metal centres. Again at the platinum being a silyl group insertion reactions with regard to catalytic applications (silylation reactions) will be studied.
