Project objective
The purpose of this project is to investigate the current-in-plane (CIP) and current-perpendicular-to-plane (CPP) giant magneto resistance (GMR) of multilayered structures comprising ferromagnetic oxide layers. The first main objective of this project is the search for spin-dependent specular reflection at metal/magnetic oxide interfaces and use of this effect to develop new spin-valve structures with very large CIP absolute giant magneto resistance. The goals are:i) for the first time, demonstration of the existence of spin-dependent specular reflection at the non-magnetic metal/magnetic oxide interfaces;ii) achievement of very large absolute GMR amplitude in spin-valves comprising magnetic oxide layers ( absolute sheet MR>5 Ohms). The second main objective is the search for spin-filtering effect through thin ferromagnetic oxide layers in CPP-GMR effect. The research activity proposed in this part of project will focus on:i) demonstration of spin-filtering effect through magnetic nano-oxide layers;ii) achievement of large CPP GMR effects in multilayers comprising at least two magnetic oxide layers with CPP resistance intennediate between metallic multilayers and tunnel junctions.
