Algebraic topology and mathematical physics

Project objective

The department of mathematics (LAGA) at Paris 13 offers 3 to 12 months doctoral stays in Algebraic Topology (AT) and Mathematical Physics (MP). The AT team consists of 9 tenured members and 5 doctorate students. Topics studied by the AT team include homotopy theory, group actions, representations, operands, category theory, Hochschild homology, function cohomology. The MP team consists of 7 tenured members and 7 doctorate students. Topics studied by the team include non-linear wave equations, Klein-Gordon equations, resonances, random periodic and quasi-periodic Schrodinger operators, complex WKB methods, radiative field theory, semi-classical analysis and quantum theory. Every year, the department of mathematics, in collaboration with others universities of Paris, offers postgraduate courses on some of these topics. In addition, related working groups are organized at Paris 13 as well as short courses taught by researchers visiting the two teams. Applicants are expected to have some background related to the topics studied by the host research group. Successful applicants will improve their knowledge and their research skills by taking part in advanced courses, seminars and working groups organized by the teams.
