Project objective
Fellowships for doctoral students in Hadron Physics, both in experiment and in theory, are available for stays up to 6 months/year at the Giessen, Germany, branch of the European Graduate School Complex Systems of Hadrons and Nuclei". The Graduate School has a well structured graduate lecture program, partly organized together with the Niels-Bohr-Instiute of the University of Copenhagen and NORDITA, which will be open to the fellows. The fellows will also join research groups close to their own specialty and have the opportunity to participate in ongoing research in order to improve their own training in the physics and methods of experimental and theoretical Hadron Physics. Special emphasis at Giessen is on the experimental side given to photonuclear reactions, both at intermediate and high energies (accelerators MAMI, ELSA and HERA), and with protons, pions and heavy-ions (accelerators COSY, SIS). On the theoretical side there is a broad program in modeling hadron- and heavy-ion-induced nuclear reactions with transport-theoretical methods, in properties of hadrons in dense and hot matter and in quark-model physics. Special emphasis is put on developing the hadronic physics input for the transport calculations and on extensions of the transport-theoretical method to include off-shell transport and non-hadronic degrees of freedom."
