Project objective

Applications are invited from PhD students in science or engineering to apply for Fellowships to undertake short to medium term periods of research training, at a new European training Site, in ELECTROCHEMICAL ENERGY AND ENVIRONMENTAL SYSTEMS. Periods of stay are variable and can be from 3 to 12 months depending upon training needs and experience of visiting fellows and can be at any time during the successful fellow's PhD studies. Fellows will receive a stipend of 1200 Euro per month, intended to supplement existing funding from the fellows home University, and a contribution to travel costs between -the training-site and home university. The Fellowships offer a unique opportunity to work with an international group of female and male researchers at the Centre of Electrochemical and Materials Processing Centre at Newcastle upon Tyne. The research into electrochemical systems at Newcastle upon Tyne University is an interdisciplinary effort between engineering and physical sciences with a major focus in the development of technologies for energy generation and environmental applications. This research is carried out through collaboration between staff in the Departments of Chemistry and Chemical Engineering. Our research encourages active collaboration between scientists, engineers and industrialists to develop innovative technologies. The research training includes electrochemical energy generation, fuel cells, intensified electrochemical and membrane reactors, advanced electrochemical separations, advanced electrolytes and materials for synthesis and innovative environmental electrochemistry and engineering. The site provides, through advanced courses, tuition in research methodologies, research management, and sustainability and in technical subjects such as electrochemical reactors, new energy technologies, clean technology, etc. The research-training combines experimental and theoretical training in electrochemical science and/or engineering with mathematical modeling and provides experience of a wide range of experimental equipment for electro analysis, electrochemistry, and electrochemical engineering and chemical and physical analysis of materials. Interested applicants should contact the training site for further information or send a CV, with details of research training requirements, to Professor Keith Scott.
