Project objective

An opportunity to contribute to research excellence in Traffic, Transport Modeling and Safety: Applications are invited from PhD research students registered outside the UK wishing to spend part of their study within the Traffic, Modeling and Safety research group at the Institute for Transport Studies (US), University of Leeds, UK. This is one of the foremost groups within the field in the UK, with a research income of 5m Euros over the last 4 years. ITS is a leading UK interdisciplinary transport research Institute involved in a wide range of teaching and research. The quality of research is continued by its achievement of the highest rating (Grade 5*) for research (1996Research Assessment Exercise). Fellows will be encouraged to develop their own research themes that are likely to be linked to one of the following areas: transport and the environment traffic modeling and prediction, transport data collection and analysis, network modeling, micro simulation, safety and impacts of new technologies, systems to enhance safety, behavioral modeling, stated preference, traffic management, travel time variability and incidents. As part of the EU funded Marie Curie Fellowship scheme, visits normally last for 6 months. Specific benefits and facilities available to Fellows include: the SATURN and DRACULA modeling software, the Leeds Advanced Driving Simulator, live data on traffic, signals, meteorological conditions and a quality through the Instrumented City, state of the art equipment through LANTERN (Leeds Health Air pollution, Noise, Traffic and Emissions Research Network), the support of an established international postgraduate student community, outstanding research library and other University of Leeds facilities, seminars, workshops, taught modules and short courses of international reputation, University provided training in research related and generic skills likely to be of long-term career benefit to Fellows. Applicants should be nationals (or resided for 5 years) within a Member or Associated State. A good standard of English is required (IELTS 5.5 or similar). The EU provides basic subsistence costs.
