Design, synthesis and structure-properties relationships of liquid crystals

Project objective

Marie Curie Fellowships, Liquid Crystal & Advanced Materials Research Group, Department of Chemistry, University of Hull, Hull, UK Applications are sought for 6-12 month Postgraduate Research Fellowships, which form part of an EU funded Marie Curie project to be located at the Centre of Organic and Biological Chemistry at the Department of Chemistry. The successful applicants will joint the Liquid Crystal Group in Hull. Research in the Chemistry Department of the University of Hull is currently ranked 11^th out of approx. 100 UK universities. The liquid crystal Group is one of the largest of it kind in Europe, Most of LC devices used currently contain materials devised initially at Hull. The city of Hull (~300.000 inhabitants) is situated in the North-East of England at the East Yorkshire coast, approx. 300 km north of London. Applications from researchers with an interest in supra-molecular chemistry, self-assembly systems, liquid crystals, organic-inorganic hybrids, and dendrimers are encouraged. A background in liquid crystal research is welcome but not necessary. Successful candidates will have obtained a good undergraduate degree and must be an EU national or EU associated state national registered for a PhD degree at a university outside the UK and for a topic which compliments the liquid crystal research at Hull. To increase the number of women in science applications from women are encouraged. A stipend of 1200 Euros per month will be offered to a successful candidate.
