Design, discovery and synthesis of functional molecules

Project objective

Marie Curie fellowships are available to post-graduate students in organic chemistry for short periods (3 - 12 months) of training at the Laboratory of Organic Synthesis and Molecular Design, Dept. of Organic and Industrial Chemistry, University of Milano (http://www.unimi.it). The laboratory is formed by the groups led by C. Scolastico, C. Gennari, A. Bernardi, and G. RU880, and has been working for many years to integrate the methods of synthetic and computational chemistry through the close collaboration of scientists active in both fields. Fellowships are available on the following subjects:1. Design and synthesis of peptidomimetics substances (Carlo Scolastico)2. Computer-assisted design of bioactive molecules (Anna Bernardi)3. Design and synthesis of glycomimetics (Anna Bernardi)4. Combinatorial chemistry ( Cesare Gennari )5. Carbohydrate chemistry (Giovanni Russo) The trainees will work in a interdisciplinary context, and will be trained by highly qualified staff using a day by day tutoring scheme on the many aspects involved in the discovery , design, and synthesis of molecules endowed with specific activities. They will be offered a selection of courses from the post-graduate curricula in chemistry of the University of Milano. Available courses include: Synthetic Methods, Synthesis planning, Analysis and purification of organic compunds, Chemical information retrieval, Structure-activity relationships of bioactive compounds. The candidates must be organic chemistry students at the post-graduate level, willing to specialize in synthetic chemistry or in the applications of computational chemistry to the design of functional molecules. They must be citizens of a Member State or Associated State, and not older than 36. Women are actively encouraged to apply.
