Principles for the design and evaluation of effective learning environments

Project objective

The ESRC Centre for Research in Development, Instruction and Training based in the School of Psychology at the University of Nottingham is seeking applicants under the Marie Curie training site scheme. Fellows would undertake part of their PhD studies (3-12 months) in a country other than their own, and with an internationally recognized team. The Centre is multi-disciplinary with expertise from psychology, education, cognitive science, artificial intelligence and human-computer interaction. The main focus of research is the design and evaluation of effective learning environments and technologies, based on investigations into the interactions between teaching, learning and systems. Training will be provided in advanced psychological research methods (qualitative and quantitative). Relevant research topics include Contingent Tutors and Learning; Effective Learning with Computers; Visualization & representations of knowledge; Collaborative learning; or Computational Modeling of the Learning Process We have a long-standing tradition of successful post-graduate training programmes. The Marie Curie programme will enable fellows to join in a network of researchers drawn from multiple backgrounds and educational policy contexts Applicants must hold a good first degree from a recognized institution in psychology or a related field such as computer science or education.
