Project objective
The EUROBASIN Marie Curie Training Site gives young researchers pursuing doctoral studies in Earth Sciences a unique opportunity to receive dedicated high-level training and have direct access to state of the art research-training facilities at five top European institutes in Integrated Sedimentary Basin Research including the teams of leading specialists of Profs. Cloetingh and Schlager (Amsterdam), Brun (Rennes), Gabrielsen (Bergen), Horvath (Budapest), Bayer and Horsfield (Potsdam). Feedback between monitoring, reconstruction, modeling and validation of processes operating on different spatial and temporal scales in sedimentary basins is key to the training packages offered. The EUROBASIN school is closely linked to major petroleum companies (i.e. Shell, Norsk Hydro, Statoil, Total Fina Elf) as well as government agencies (i.e. TNO, BGR, IFP) active in assessment of geo-resources, water research and geo-environment. An array of integrated research training facilities is available to fellows, including numerical and analogue modeling, isotope and geochemistry labs, seismic workstations, field training, as well as high quality geological and geophysical data sets for selected basins. Young researchers must meet regulations for the Marie Curie programme (see: cordis.europa.eulimproving). The stay at the EUROBASIN School forms an integral part of the doctoral studies in geology, geophysics or geotechnology of the Fellow at his/her home institute. Duration of a research and training posting at the EUROBASIN School can vary between 6 and 12 months. Potential fellows from institutions not included in the EUROBASIN School and female researchers are explicitly invited to apply for admission. Applications, including a CV, work plan, and letter of recommendation from two senior scientists should be forwarded to the EUROBASIN Office.
