Project objective

MARIE CURIE TRAINING SITE FOR THE ASSESSMENT OF DIETARY COMPONENTS WITHHEALTH-PROMOTING PROPERTIES Applications are invited from doctoral researchers in the fields of biochemistry, biomedical sciences, food science and nutrition to undertake a training fellowship in the field of functional food assessment in the Northern Ireland Centre for Diet and Health (NICHE), based in the University of Ulster. Two 12-month fellowships will be offered each year from 2002-2004. A bursary of 1200 euro-month is available to successful applicants. Fellows will participate in individually tailored training programme to support a short research project that is complementary to their current doctoral research. The Site offers particular expertise in the following activities: Development and validation of surrogate markers of health status or disease risk; Conduct of human dietary intervention trials; Consumer response to new foods; Exploitation of food consumption databases - including unique data from the North/South Ireland Food Consumption Survey 2000. Fellows will have an assigned mentor, but will be encouraged to interact with other members of the NICHE research team, and to participate in activities such as research publication and presentations. The University of Ulster is a multi-campus university with a multinational student body. The NICHE site is well placed to allow exploring landmarks such as the Giants Causeway and cities such as Belfast and Dublin. Applicants must benon-UK citizens of EU member or associated states. Applications are particularly welcome from women and minority groups.
