Project objective
The Center for Human Genetics in Leuven, Belgium, is ready to host foreign graduate students for a training of 6 to 12 months in one of several disciplines of human genetics. The Department of Clinical Genetics at the Center for Human Genetics is an academic research group affiliated to the University Hospital. The group represents a multidisciplinary team involved in fundamental, clinical and applied research in constitutional and acquired genetic disorders. Positions are available for training in molecular genetics of neurofibromatosis, autism and congenital disorders of glycosylation (Profs. Eric Legius, Koen Devriendt and Gert Matthijs), for training in cytogenetics and molecular analysis of leukemia, lymphoma and solid tumors (Profs. Anne Hagemeijer, Iwona Wlodarska and Dr. Maria Debiec-Rychter) and for clinical training in dysmorphology and mental retardation (Profs. Jean-Pierre Fryns, Eric Legius and Koen Devriendt). The successful candidates should have received their undergraduate training in a European University with a major in medicine, cell biology, molecular biology or pharmacy and should have entered a PhD programme. The applicant's PhD project is preferably related to one of the proposed research areas; in particular, applicants should benefit of the availability of specific techniques and expert diagnostic services that can complement their PhD project. Fellows have access to the interdisciplinary doctoral training courses, organized at the Faculty of Medicine in Leuven. The upper age limit for applicants is 30 at the time of application.
