Project objective

The job of a researcher is fascinating but also quite difficult to comprehend. Today, many young students hesitate to follow a scientific career because the jobs are not as glamorous and popularised through the media as others. Nevertheless, when the encou nter between the students and the scientists occurs, the magic usually works. There are so many different careers in R&D that they are difficult to summarize in a guide. We have thus decided to organize visits of scientists in French schools, for sch ool children aged 14-16 (3rd and 2nd class of the French educational system), because this corresponds to the period when they have to make important and irreversible choices in their education. The scientists will explain the different steps involved fr om the identification of a pathology and the requirement of a treatment, to the discovery and development of the drug, describing the many jobs that sustain this chain of events. He (she) will also talk about his (her) own job and answer the pupils' questi ons. To finish, he (she) will propose the participation of the class in a contest: be the spokespersons of research scientists and design a poster to advertize scientific formations to children their own age. The Board of the project will choose the best projects and the results will be announced at an official party at La Géode in Paris. Representatives of the government, the European commission, the media and the scientific community will be invited to this party.
