Project objective
The Ministry of Education and Research has given the mandate to the Fondazzjoni Temi Zammit (FTZ) for the establishment of a mobility centre at national level. In 2003 an exploratory exercise was done by the Malta Council for Science and Technology, a member of FTZ, to map existing entities, by analysing the tasks they carry out, the type of information and assistance they offer, and explore any current local issues related to mobility. Based on the insights attained from this exercise, this project will focus on improving research mobility by providing a quality service of value to researchers and host institutions through effective coordination of key local stakeholders. The Malta centre sets itself three objectives: to give researchers and their families, whether incoming or outgoing, assistance in all matters relating to their professional and daily lives; to create awareness of the European network of mobility centres and the European mobility portal; and to create a favourable environment for the mobility of researchers in line with the Work Programme of the FP6 Specific Programme Structuring the European Research Area", Human resources and Mobility. This project lasts 36 months and will be a start-up and consolidation exercise for a mobility centre in Malta. The mobility centre will be financed and managed by the Fondazzjoni Temi Zammit, with the support of the Ministry of Education. To effectively achieve the objectives set out by the proposal, the work plan will be divided into four work packages, namely Management, Information, Promotion, and Training with 12 deliverables aimed to establish the long-tem set-up and objectives of the Malta National mobility centre."
