Final Activity Report Summary - DDR (Doing disability research: Equal lives for equal people)
The focus of the project was the implementation of an inclusive research paradigm for people with intellectual disability (PWID) within the Republic of Ireland and an investigation of its efficacy. The overall purpose of project was the transfer of knowledge (TOK) between researchers, co-researchers with an intellectual disability and associated members of the National Institute of Learning Difficulties (NISLD), now known as the National Institute for Intellectual Disabilities (NIID), Trinity College Dublin. In order to fulfil this undertaking the project included four projects: 1. Oral history 2. National survey with PWID 3. National study of families who have a member with intellectual disabilities 4. Action based project to include students with intellectual disabilities in mainstream undergraduate classes at Trinity College Dublin. The results of these projects are included in the attached document (NIID TOK Summary Project Results) The project was operationalised in four phases which ran in parallel with one another (this change was explained in the first progress report) Phase 1: Training inclusive Researchers Phase 2: Implementation of a national Oral History project for PWID within the Republic of Ireland Phase 3: Implementation of two national inclusive survey research projects within the Republic of Ireland, one for people with intellectual disability and one for family members Phase 4: Networking and setting up inclusive research projects across international boundaries.

Project objective
The overall purpose of the project is to transfer knowledge to the staff of the National Institute for the Study of Learning Difficulties, Trinity College, so that research staff can become skilled in implementing and investigating the efficacy of an inclusive research paradigm for people with intellectual disability within the Republic of Ireland.There are five sub objectives each being implemented as a separate phases. Specifically to:1) To develop implement and appraise inclusive research training courses for people with learning disabilities, family members and professionals.2) To develop oral histories of people with learning disabilities and the experience of family members who have a son or daughter with a disability (such family members can be independent of the person with the learning disability).3) To develop research teams that have membership of people with learning disabilities and family members.4) To develop the skills in writing research reports in plain English and presenting them in a manner that can be easily understood by people with learning disabilities.
