Smart multipurpose knowledge administration environment for intelligent decision support systems development

PEOPLE MARIE CURIE ACTIONS International Research Staff Exchange Scheme Call: FP7-PEOPLE-2009-IRSES Smart multipurpose knowledge administration environment for intelligent decision support systems development “SASD” Project number 247549 In the years 2010-2015, within the SASD project, four research teams in Europe and Australia, coordinated by professor Orlowski and professor Szczerbicki, were engaged in the production of intelligent decision-making systems for management purposes. The basis for the design and development of these systems came from a design platform developed at the University of Newcastle called Decisional DNA and Technological Trust Application for Multi-domain Knowledge Structure. The platform was not only the basis for the development of the systems, but what is more, its main functionalities were verified during the development processes. This verification was done on the basis of four cases provided by partners from Spain and Poland. The cases regarded (team acronym/country in parentheses): • Modelling User-Centric Pervasive Adaptive Systems - the REFLECT Ontology (VICOMTech/Spain) • Semantic Enhancement of Virtual Engineering Applications (VICOMTech/Spain). • Smart Modelling Approach of IT Project Management for Small and Medium Companies (GUT, Poland). • Mortgage Market Knowledge-Based Modelling in Changing, Economic Conditions (GUT, Poland). The main product of the project was to develop a verified platform, Decisional DNA and Technological Trust Application for Multi-domain Knowledge Structure, which can be used to design and implement any intelligent system based on experience. The project also involved developing an original method for the collection of experiences, called the Set of Experiences (SOEKS), which is an integral part of the proposed design platform. The work on the verification of the cases showed how diverse the application of the design platform developed within the project can be. The developed systems can be used in medicine for collecting medical research, by banks for making decisions on granting loans or in the management of IT projects. It should be noted that in the course of the project, a fifth case regarding the design of Smart Cities systems was added, in which the accumulated knowledge and experience of those who manage cities becomes crucial when making decisions. This wide spectrum of cases indicates a high potential for implementing the solution proposed by the consortium. The project partners are holding discussions to implement the proposed systems in the countries and market sectors which are interested in the use of intelligent systems. In Gdansk, work is underway to implement the Smart Cities system and the use of SOEKS is being considered for the accumulation of experiences about decisions relating to exceeding the level of dust and noise in the city.

Project objective

Background and Aims Since 2002 four scientific teams in Europe and Australia have been collaborating on Intelligent Decision Support Systems (IDSS) research and development. Our aim is to take the specific experience based knowledge representation developed in Australia and to integrate it with knowledge acquisition models and approaches researched by European teams which would result in a novel, more advanced and comprehensive approach to smart knowledge administration. The need for such research and development in knowledge based society is apparent. Our Vision and Proposal To maintain our collaboration efforts to reach the overall aim of our research we envisage the need for verification and integration of individual cases developed by the four separate teams: • Decisional DNA and Technological Trust Application for Multi-domain Knowledge Structure (Newcastle/Australia) • Semantic Enhancement of Virtual Engineering Applications (VICOMTech/Spain) • Smart Modeling Approach of IT Project Management for Small and Medium Companies (GUT, Poland) • Mortgage Market Knowledge-Based Modelling in the Changing, Economical Conditions (GUT, Poland) For integration purposes we propose an extensive and well planned exchange of researchers engaged in research and development of the above individual cases. Expected Results The proposed exchange would significantly support the collaboration that is required at this stage and which can be achieved only by immersing researchers in research environments developed by other teams. Our current collaboration that is based on e-mails and teleconferences is no longer sufficient. The proposed higher level collaboration would integrate the individual efforts into overall multi purpose smart knowledge administration platform as required in the age of global economy.
