GAY AND MUSLIM IN EUROPE
Executive Summary: The GayMuslimEu project has achieved most of its research and training objectives. Minor changes have been introduced to include the preparation of 3 CNRS competitions in order to obtain a permanent position ( 36/03 CR2 Sociologie - Normes et règles ; 38/02 Sociétés et cultures: approches comparatives; 40/03 Politique, pouvoir, organisation), this was recalled in the previous report. PROGRESS RESEARCH TRAINING ACTIVITIES/TOK/INTEGRATION 1. After espatblishing a list of contacts, a micro-survey has started in April 2013 (Milestone 4). Mainwhile I have successfully passed the CNRS competition (Recruitment campaign for 2013) in conformity with the annex “B5.2 Contribution to career development and re-establishment” specially relevant for the MC IEF Career Restart panel. I have been recruited in CNRS in 2014. A second deliverable was submitted to Prof. BERLINER and exposed during a LAMC meeting. I carried on the organisation and animation of a LAMC seminar related to Anthropology of Food, giving me the opportunity in parallel to my training on sexuality and religion, to teach, organise, collaborate. (See website http://alisoc.hypotheses.org/a-propos ). - I was also involved in the seminar IDEMEC/IREMAM Genre et sexualité au prisme des religions dans l’espace méditerranéen. MMSH Aix en Provence. - I have achieved in-depth one to one interview with 8 gay and 10 lesbian Muslims recruited by the intermediate of key informant and by snow ball sampling method. - I have transcribed the interviews and analysis of the audio taped collected data - I have written the first results, confirmed and new hypothesis. - I have written a paper that has been submitted for a collective book under the co-direction of Katia Boissevain and myself.

This project aims to allow the applicant (an experienced researcher) to achieve a turn in her career after a two years break, to increase her chances to be recruited as permanent senior researcher, through the acquisition of knowledge, experience in the new field of Gender and Sexualities. The host organization chosen is the Laboratoire d’Anthropologie des Mondes Contemporains (LAMC), a research center of the Université Libre de Bruxelles (ULB) that can provide the applicant with the most recent development in anthropology and sociology in gender and sexuality. The training of the applicant will be achieved through the realization of the GayMuslimEu project which seek to analyse the ground of the recent raising of ‘Gay Muslim’ groups in Europe by examining concomitantly 1/the construction of a specific Gay Muslim public problem and 2/the process of ‘subjectivation’ of gay and lesbian Muslims living in Europe through their ‘coming-out’ stories. As well as producing academic knowledge, and fostering academic networking and exchanges,the GayMuslimEu will propose activities that can help NGOs to fight against the discriminations which are based on religion and sexuality.
