HC Ørsted Postdoc, cofunded by Marie Curie Actions
The H.C. Ørsted Postdoc Program, co-funded by Marie Skłodowska-Curie Actions, COFUNDPostdocDTU (grant no. 609405), has achieved the goals of Marie Skłodowska-Curie Actions COFUND by increasing the European-wide mobility possibilities for training and career development of young experienced researchers. The Program contributed to the researcher’s career development, broadening and deepening individual competencies through exposure to an international and multidisciplinary environment at the Technical University of Denmark, DTU. The Program has been based on incoming mobility and enabled young researchers from around the world to carry out curiosity-driven, bottom-up research projects within all branches of engineering science at DTU. The Program has implemented gender blinding of applications to promote gender equality. Since the program launch in January 2014 the following has been achieved; Three calls and evaluation rounds have been concluded resulting in the hiring of 58 young experienced researchers from 22 different nations and five continents. The research fellows were employed at 21 different departments and centres at DTU. The Program is named after Hans Christian Ørsted, a world-renowned Danish physicist and chemist who discovered electromagnetism and founded the Technical University of Denmark. In Ørsted’s spirit the Program offers young experienced researchers a chance to develop their career through curiosity driven research at one of Europe’s best engineering universities. The Program offers the fellows a unique chance to shape their own careers as the Program offers funding for bottom-up and idea driven projects. The research projects should be pivotal in the career of the COFUNDPostdocDTU fellow’s future career as the fellows will have carried out innovative research, formed professional networks within ERA and developed their soft and hard skills in the period of the projects. As such the Program is a natural part of DTU’s vision to develop and create value using the natural sciences and the technical sciences to benefit society. The proposed HC Ørsted Postdoc Cofunded by Marie Curie Actions (COFUNDPostdocDTU) at the Technical University of Denmark (DTU) will build on the existing HC Ørsted Postdoc programme. Since 2005, this programme has awarded 10 annual postdoc positions of 12 months each (a total of 86 fellowships in 2012) to highly talented, recent PhD graduates based on incoming mobility.COFUNDPostdocDTU is based on incoming mobility and is aiming to attract the most talented, Experienced Researcher postdoc candidates from all over the world to carry out curiosity-driven, bottom-up research projects within all branches of engineering science at DTU.The new programme, COFUNDPostdocDTU, will increase the total programme budget to 9,190,883 EUR, the duration of the fellowships to 24 months, and the number of fellowships awarded each year to 14. During the COFUND period from 2014 to 2018, a total of 56 fellowships will be awarded resulting in an increase in the total budget from 670.000€ to 9.190.000€.HC Ørsted Postdoc is part of the effort to implement DTU’s strategy for internationalization: to be recognized and respected globally as a leading technical university, to increase awareness of DTU’s strengths and facilities, and innovation capacity. DTU is a public, financially autonomous university, and conducts research in all engineering disciplines of the highest international standard.HC Ørsted Postdoc will ensure transparency throughout the application and selection processes, provide uniform and equal access for all fellows to career development services and funding, and candidates will have full freedom to pursue their own research and career goals.
