PRES Towards International Gain of Excellence
PRESTIGE was co-financed under the Marie Curie Actions-COFUND of the European Union’s 7th Framework Programme for Research and Technological Development for a total duration of 63 months (01/09/2014-30/11/2019). It was coordinated by Campus France, the French National Agency for international student and researcher mobility. PRESTIGE aimed at fostering the international mobility of researchers by offering post-doctoral research co-financing grants to and from France and in all scientific fields. A call for applications was continuously open with 4 cut-off dates per year: March 31st, June 30th, September 30th, December 31st. Applications in English were to be submitted through the PRESTIGE Online Submission Tool before one of the 4 cut-off dates. The June 30th, 2018 cut-off was the fifteenth and very last of the PRESTIGE programme. Three mobility schemes were available: - Incoming (co-financing grants for 12 to 24 months), allowing foreign or French researchers to carry out their post-doctoral research work in France; - Outgoing (co-financing grants for 6 to 12 months), for researchers from France wishing to carry out a post-doctoral research project in another country; - Re-integration (co-financing grants for 12 to 24 months), targeted at nationals of EU Member States or Associated Countries working in research for at least 3 years in another Third Country and wishing to come to France to further develop their research career. Over fifteen cut-off dates, from late 2014 to mid-2018, 294 researchers, representing as many as 44 different nationalities, were positively evaluated and selected out of 437 applications submitted. Taking account several withdrawals or abandonments for personal or professional reasons, 233 PRESTIGE Fellows were actually co-funded, corresponding to more than 300 implemented fellow years (87,3% within the Incoming mobility scheme, 5,5% within the Outgoing mobility scheme and 7,2% within the Reintegration mobility scheme). Some 100 French higher education and research organisations were involved in the programme as hosting and/or sending institutions. In order to properly carry out the evaluation and selection procedure, Campus France managed to build up a very broad database of some 2900 expert reviewers from around the world. Campus France promoted the PRESTIGE programme in France and worldwide at some 100 targeted events, training sessions and meetings, through its 260 overseas offices in 126 countries and the French diplomatic network, as well as online on Euraxess, its own websites, the PRESTIGE website and social networks. Different information and promotion tools, in English and French, were also available on the programme website for potential applicants, hosting/sending institutions and multi pliers (e.g. a poster, a flyer, a FAQ). The programme PRESTIGE stands for PRES Towards International Gain of Excellence. It is a grant programme which main aim is to attract foreign researchers to do research work and undertake training in various institutions of the Clusters (PRES) of the two participating French Regions: Region Rhône-Alpes and Region Midi-Pyrénées. Its goal is also to send abroad some of the promising young researchers, from the two Regions, so that they participate in international research activities at the highest level.PRESTIGE is based on incoming and outgoing mobility initiatives that already exist in the Regions, participating in the proposal, but combines them into an innovative programme of much larger size covering a very broad range of research fields. It helps to create a network enabling the research fellow to choose freely the research topic, destination and research group and favours with cross-fertilization exchanges between researchers.PRESTIGE has the following main objectives of:• Promoting interdisciplinary research cooperation with young talents;• Boosting employment in R&D;• Increasing the competitiveness of the participating Regions;• Increasing the visibility at international level of regional initiatives so as to structure the European Research Area (ERA).PRESTIGE is composed of the following partners:• Campus France, the Coordinator;• CPU, the Conference of French Rectors;• The Region Rhône-Alpes and its Clusters of Higher Education and Research (PRES) called “Université de Grenoble” and “Université de Lyon”;• The Région Midi-Pyrénées and its Cluster of Higher Education and Research (PRES) named “Université de Toulouse”.PRESTIGE is planned for 5 years (4th quarter 2013 – 4th quarter 2018) and is based on an academic duration of four years (four main calls for fellows will be launched). The programme has an overall budget of 24 944 000 €, 60% of which will be financed by regional sources, public bodies and private companies.
