Накратко на български

Търси се нова лека скаларна частица чрез наблюдение на разпада на каони в експеримента NA62 в ЦЕРН. Това помага за откриването на физични процеси, които не се обясняват от сегашния Стандартен модел.

Search for a new light scalar particle in the K+→π+χ decay at the NA62 experiment at CERN

Models with additional scalars with highly suppressed couplings to the Standard Model (SM) particles are motivated by the existence of a fundamental scalar (Higgs boson) discovered in 2012 at the Large Hadron Collider. The main aim of this project is to observe physics beyond the SM in kaon decays through the search for a new light scalar particle S in the decay K+ → π+ S , S → μ+ μ− at the NA62 experiment at CERN. The scalar search is performed in all the available scalar mass range (2m(μ) < m(S) < m(K) − m(π) ) and for different values of its lifetime τ(S) . In case of discovery, the model-independent value B = BR(K+ → π+ S ) · BR(S → μ+ μ− ) will be claimed. Otherwise, upper limits will be set on B. The K+ → π+ μ+ μ− decay has been chosen for normalisation since it has exactly the same signature as the signal and hence the same trigger stream can be used.

Цел на проекта

The Higgs boson was discovered at CERN in 2012 putting the last missing brick into the Standard Model that successfully describes phenomena up to the TeV energies. However, the Standard Model is incomplete offering no explanation for a range of phenomena, which motivates the development of various extensions. Some of these extensions predict the existence of new particles at low energy scale, and can be therefore tested in meson decays. The main aim of this project is to observe physics beyond the Standard Model in kaon decays through the search for a new light scalar particle χ in the decay K+→π+χ, χ→μ+μ- at the NA62 experiment at CERN.
