European Researchers' Night: The Night Deal

Some of the objectives were: o Make as many people as possible aware of the ERN and its objectives; o Attract as large as possible a number of organizations to the events organized. o To raise awareness among the general public, regardless of age and scientific background, about research and innovation, in order to understand the benefits for society and increase the public’s recognition of the importance of the researchers’ work. o Engage relevant actors (educational institutions of all levels, trained practitioners) to encourage formal and informal science education with the aim to improve the scientific knowledge base. o To highlight, through an interactive approach, the positive impact that R&I has on everyday life, as well as its variability by showcasing its multidimensional and multidisciplinary role. o To eliminate any stereotypes around researchers and their profiles. o Promote gender balance and inclusion in research by ensuring equal participation of male and female researchers, regardless of their seniority and scientific background. o Promote through ‘The Night Deal’ the agenda of the European Green Deal initiative for a greener and smarter world, for a more sustainable future through research and innovation. The European Researcher Night 2020 was held under special circumstances and the main conclusion that could be drawn from the awareness campaign is that the main goal is achieved.

Цел на проекта

The Night Deal proposal aims at organising a European Researchers' Night (ERN) event in Nicosia. The proposal's overall objective is to reach out to the wider public and raise awareness about the research and innovation (R&I) activities undertaken at national and EU level while boosting knowledge about the benefits of science to society in order to stimulate the interest in research careers, especially among young people and their families. The Night Deal aims also at promotimg the agenda of the European Green Deal initiative for a greener and smarter world, for a more sustainable future through R&I. The Coordinator, the Research and Innovation Foundation (RIF), as the National Agency for supporting R&I, has within its remit gained a long experience in organising activities for the promotion of R&I towards the public and especially the younger generation, with the ERN events being an integral part of its philosophy since 2006, and always with the vivid support from the National R&I System. The proposed event will be the result of a long-lasting and well established collaboration of the RIF with all relevant R&I stakeholders (government, industry, academia) and participants from the public ensuring maximum complementarity. Building on past experiences, The Night Deal will bring together researchers from all sectors and disciplines, along with the public, increasing appreciation of the researchers’ work, raising awareness on the importance of R&I for society and the economy and motivating young people to take up a career in research. With the motto 'science for all' as a flagship and through pre-events, side and main event consisting of a balanced mix of edutainment and inreactive activities aiming at people of all ages, genders and educational backgrounds, The Night Deal will celebrate R&I achievements, especially EU funded and will ultimately remove stereotypes about the researchers’ profession, creating a much needed R&I culture among the Cypriot society.
