SHAring Researchers’ Passion for Education and Rights - The European Researchers’ Night in Italy 2024-2025

The SHARPER 2024/2025 project represents the European Researchers’ Night across 15 Italian cities (Ancona, Bari, Cagliari, Camerino, Catania, Genoa, L'Aquila, Macerata, Nuoro, Palermo, Pavia, Perugia, Sassari, Terni, and Trieste). It forms part of the broader ERN international cultural initiative aimed at strengthening dialogue between citizens and researchers. The SHARPER acronym stands for SHAring Researchers’ Passion for Education and Rights, highlighting the urgent need to promote inclusive access to education and cultural opportunities. This commitment is reflected in dedicated actions such as the “Researchers at Schools” work package and underscores the importance of reaching audiences beyond those traditionally involved in science-related activities. Through a wide range of engagement approaches and communication formats, people of all ages have had the opportunity to meet researchers from diverse disciplines, gaining insight into how research connects with everyday life and contributes to society as a whole. The core objectives of SHARPER are to: - help students better understand the world of research and inspire them to pursue scientific careers, actively contributing to the future; - equip teachers with effective tools to strengthen dialogue between researchers and younger generations; - foster social inclusion within research processes by overcoming social and cultural barriers; - encourage young people to consider research as a meaningful career path; - present researchers as inspiring role models, driven by curiosity, passion, and expertise; - communicate the essential role of research in addressing major global challenges; - promote strong partnerships between researchers and citizens to support knowledge-based innovation; - harness researchers’ enthusiasm and emotions to make science accessible and understandable to everyone; - build a national community of researchers who are also skilled communicators, connected at the European level with fellow science communicators. The project’s expected qualitative impact is to strengthen collaboration among all stakeholders, ultimately enhancing meaningful and lasting engagement between citizens and the research community.

Цел на проекта

SHARPER means SHAring Researchers’ passion for Education and Rights and it is the European Researchers’ Night and the Researchers at Schools program in 15 cities of 9 regions in Italy in 2024 and 2025. A diverse set of public engagement actions created by a community of more than 300 stakeholders from all over Italy: researchers from universities, communicators, teachers and students, entrepreneurs, and cultural bodies. This increasing network works together as one to build a better, desirable, and peaceful future based on shared knowledge generated jointly by researchers and citizens. The core philosophy of Sharper is inclusion and accessibility to reliable information, quality education for all. The cities involved: Ancona, Bari, Cagliari, Camerino, Catania, Genova, L’Aquila, Nuoro, Palermo, Pavia, Perugia, Sassari, Urbino, Terni and Trieste and their territories are transformed into accessible labs where everyone, side by side with researchers, can explore complex issues summarized by the five Mission areas of the Horizon Europe program. A multi-actor and multidisciplinary approach are the key used by communicator and researchers to engage citizens of all ages, both: those who are interested into these topics and want to know more about the role of researchers in building the future, or those who are skeptical and rarely or never get involved in cultural initiatives about research. Students, teachers and the school community that also includes families are a central actor of Sharper that engage them in a rich and wide set of activities organized locally, nationally and internationally all year round. From open and accessible labs to workshops and games, from talks to performances that involve students in their schools or online to meet young researchers from all over the world and discover how wide is the researchers’ job in terms of topics interests and skills that young generation can practice becoming responsible citizens.
