BRIDGES creates a sustainable pathway for researcher-citizen dialogue by transforming the European Researchers' Night from an isolated event into the culmination of year-round engagement. Through an articulated strategy, BRIDGES aims to transform both researchers and communities. Science is one of humanity's most powerful bridge-building endeavours, yet a critical gap persists between researchers and society. The 2024 Eurobarometer reveals a troubling paradox: while 83% of Europeans trust science's positive impact, 61% believe it primarily benefits the well-off. To address this gap, BRIDGES employs five complementary engagement strategies - Encounters, Places, Hands, Stories, and Voices - ensuring activities accommodate diverse learning styles while systematically embedding Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, and Accessibility across social, physical, and cultural dimensions. BRIDGES implements three interconnected programmes across eight Portuguese locations spanning diverse geographical and socioeconomic contexts. Throughout the year, 50+ build-up activities bring science to everyday spaces, removing barriers preventing underserved populations from accessing traditional venues. The Researchers at Schools initiative establishes sustained connections reaching 5,000+ students, particularly in TEIP schools serving socioeconomically challenged communities. Two ERN editions per location showcase ongoing research projects, in celebrations brought together by researchers and community alike, featuring 250+ activities around EU priorities. The consortium strategically combines the complementary expertise of ITQB NOVA (coordination, impact assessment, Oeiras venue), Ciência Viva (ERN, R@S activities, venue coordination via 6 Science Centres and 897 Science Clubs), and i3S (awareness campaign, Porto venue). Together, they mobilize 500+ researchers from EU-funded programmes, engage 30,000+ ERN participants, and reach 500,000+ through extensive digital and physical networks.
