Цел на проекта
Protection and wellbeing of children is at the forefront of policy concerns in Europe. Where children are abused and neglected, states intervene through Child Protection & Welfare systems and services, sometimes resulting in children being placed in out-of-home care.Policy and practice are recognizing the need to support parents in protecting children due to greater knowledge on the role of positive parenting in child development, understanding of the value of prevention and early intervention and the risks to development for children brought up in traditional institutional care settings. While Parenting Support and Child Protection & Welfare are established, separate bodies of research, they are not integrated, with limited, rigorous research spanning both fields.SUPAR (Supporting Parents to Protect Children) will create an ambitious, frontier-breaking, cross-disciplinary, cross-sectoral and international programme of doctoral training and research. It will create a new group of leaders to progress knowledge creation and policy impact on supporting parents in Child Protection & Welfare services.SUPAR will address intertwined evidence challenges on Parenting Support in Child Protection & Welfare, on cross-sectoral and cross-disciplinary working, and on how policy and law can enable Parenting Support as a strategy to protect children.SUPAR will innovate: by co-producing its research through the participation of those with lived experience of Child Protection & Welfare services across the full research lifecycle; by focusing on all levels of Parenting Support in Child Protection & Welfare from front-line practice to policy; and by embedding cross-disciplinary and cross-sectoral collaboration as a fundamental imperative of its research and training components.SUPAR’s research programme, mirrored in its multi-component doctoral training, will crystallise Parenting Support as a necessary component of Child Protection & Welfare policy and practice.
