Цел на проекта
This is a project for a post-doctoral stage at the Mathematical Research Institute (M.R.I.) at Utrecht, The Netherlands. The candidate, after receiving a degree at the University of Rome I, has completed a Ph.D. in arithmetic algebraic geometry at the University of Paris-Sud in January 1995. In his thesis, he has solved an old open question in the theory of lifting problems for algebraic curves over complete discrete valuation rings, namely the lifting of a wildly ramified Galois covering. He approached the problem from a local point of view, having recourse to rigid analytic geometry, a theory which has been developed widely since the early 70's and which, in the last few years, has proven to be extremely useful in solving problems in arithmetic algebraic geometry. The candidate wishes now to study more general lifting problems for curves and abelian varieties, in attempt both to testing his techniques against old open problems in this subject and to solve new questions arising from his Ph.D. thesis by means of the methods already developed in this theory. Therefore, he is planning to spend two years at M.R.I., where he could acquire the necessary knowledge in arithmetic algebraic geometry methods, working under the direction of Professor F. Oort, possibly the best specialist in lifting problems. A stage at the M.R.I. would also give him the opportunity to enrich his scientific production, upgrading his competence and establishing fruitful contacts with Dutch mathematicians. The candidate has participated to the contest for an M.R.I. post-doctoral fellowship in the framework of the UE programme Human Capital and Mobility in November 1994; the Committee, although has not selected him for the position, put him at the top of the reserve list and has encouraged him to apply for an individual fellowship.
