FRACTURE OF ULTRA HIGH STRENGTH CONCRETE AND STEEL FIBRE REINFORCED CONCRETE USING A HOPKINSON BAR BUNDLE The purpose of the research project is to investigate the dynamic transient behaviour of ultra high strength concrete and fibre reinforced concrete subjected to impact loads, and to investigate the applicability of a fracture mechanical model for predicting the fracture behaviour of civil engineering structures subjected to impact loads. The project will consist of both experimental, theoretical and numerical investigations. The experimental investigations will be performed using the Hopkinson bar bundle and the numerical investigations will be performed by modifying the explicit finite element program PLEXIS-3C. The research project will basicly be divided into three phases. A learning phase where the applicant will be familiar with the Hopkinson bar bundle and the explicit finite element program PLEXIS-3C. In the second phase the experiments will be planned and performed, and the Fictitious Crack Model will be implemented into PLEXIS-3C. In the third phase, the experimental results will be compared with results obtained using PLEXIS-3C, and the results will be evaluated and compared with the existing codes.
