Цел на проекта
The upper continental slope of the Baie des Anges (French Riviera) is characterised by a narrow and steep slope with important areas of underconsolidated, thus potentially unstable, surficial sediments. For a detailed geomorphologic analysis of the upper slope as the basis for the identification of areas of erosion and deposition, their morphology and acoustic character, this study proposes a synoptic approach, integrating multibeam bathymetry, high- (SAR) and mid-resolution (SeaMARC I) side-scan sonar, 3.5 kHz, airgun and Boomer Huntec seismic profiles, sediment cores and bottom photographs. After establishing the nature and relative importance of processes responsible for the present day morphology, the determination of the size, timing and frequency of recurrence of slope failures and associated mass-movements in the initiation area will allow the tentative calculation of sediment fluxes within the slope and between slope and basin. The integration of a geomorphologic with a previous geotechnical zonation will lead to the re-evaluation and improvement of the previous slope stability analysis. The frequency of recurrence of past failure events will provide a test for the assessment of the geological hazard in a densely populated and industrialised region, where future failure events may cause great damage.
