Цел на проекта
Knowing how human observers direct and time behaviour is important for understanding mental processes and for the design of intelligent systems. Judging time-to-collision with approaching objects, or with stationary objects during forward locomotion, is one important component of this behaviour. Four different theoretical models of the estimation process have been proposed but, though the competence of each has been established through computational studies, none has been systematically compared with human performance. This project identifies different predictions about how each model will perform in particular stimulus situations and proposes experiments to test these predictions. The results will confirm if one of the existing models is correct or whether a new model is needed. In the latter case, it will identify new constraints for such a model.
