Цел на проекта
Research objectives and content It is an important open problem to characterize the Jacobians of quasiconformal mappings. Recent progress on this problem has been made and has found applications in other fields. In order to get a better understanding of the mutual relationship of a quasiconformal mapping and its Jacobian it is interesting to think of the Jacobian as a given weight and to derive the properties of the mapping by working with the weight alone. It is then natural to start with a weight which is not necessarily a Jacobian of a quasiconformal map. If certain conditions are imposed on the weight, then many theorems of quasiconformal mapping theory have versions in this general setting. These conditions reflect the essential properties of Jacobians of quasiconformal maps. It is to be hoped that this approach leads to some progress towards the characterization problem mentioned above. Training content (objective, benefit and expected impact) The applicant has recently become interested in the theory of quasiconformal mappings, since it related to his previous research. In order to carry out the project outlined above successfully, a deep understanding of quasiconformal mappings is indispensable. The University of Jyvaskyla hosts some of the most prominent researchers in this field. The applicant intends to increase his knowledge of this theory by collaborating with scientists of the host institute.
