Цел на проекта

Research objectives and content The project will result in a complete axiomatisation of a simplified mereotopology. The elements of this mereotopology will consist of lines and regions bounded by these lines. Thus it will include one- and two-dimensional spatial entities. Although this mereotopology is parsimonious, it is adequate for many computer applications such as Geographical Information Systems. The result of the project is primarily a theoretical one. Nevertheless, the axiomatisation will provide a mean for a wide range of computer applications for qualitative spatial representation and reasoning. Interfacing the methods of topology, model theory, logic and computer science, will ensure the success of the project. Training content (objective, benefit and expected impact) Objectives: - acquisition of knowledge in the areas of mathematical topology, logic, and model theory - use of various research methods - publications, PhD Benefits and expected impact: - confidence in the ability to carry out research abroad - experience in a foreign higher education system - readiness to move to a foreign country to do research - foreign language experience - cultural experience - personal contacts
