Цел на проекта
Research objectives and content During the 1980s and 1990s governments in Europe have in a context of economic retrenchment reformed and moderated the public sector. This has taken the form of privatisation, internal modernisation, increasing commercialism and an emphasis on self-governance and accountability. The focus of the research is on management of state enterprises, and how state enterprises' relationships with market forces are mediated by political-economic frameworks at national and European level. The research will, in particular, examine managements' approach towards workplace industrial relations and pursuit of flexibility within a comparative framework of the postal services in Britain and Denmark. This specific research focus will enable an attempt at providing a generalisable analysis of managements' opportunities and constraints in state enterprises and how these are constituted within causal relationships and processes between European, national and workplace levels. Training content (objective, benefit and expected impact) The research training will enable me to develop research skills in conducting cross-national comparative research in the area of European industrial relations. The research project will highlight similarities/ differences amongst member states in how state enterprises are managed. Links with industry / industrial relevance (22) I The research is relevant to the future needs of managers in state enterprises. It encompasses within the research process, an examination of managers' utilisation and best practices of flexibility and their opportunities and constraints for strategic action.
