Research objectives and content B-physics has become one of the most promising sectors of particle physics to observe New Physics effects. More specifically, two types of Flavour Changing Neutral Current processes could be particularly sensitive to these effects: CP violating asymmetries induced by the mixing in the B system and rare B decays. There are two main motivations for the interest in these processes: an experimental one, the expected increase in statistics in the planned B-physics facilities, and another theoretical, the possibility of extracting the angles of the Unitarity Triangle from CP asymmetries in a clean way and also the recent progress in the computation of the next-to-leading QCD corrections to rare B decays. The aim of the present research project is twofold. On the one hand, to undertake a systematic analysis of all possible ways that New Physics could manifest in measurements of the angles of the Unitarity Triangle: by generating new phases, showing departures from the Standard Model predictions and through inconsistencies in the measurements. And at the same time, to look for possible sources of these discrepancies in alternative models to the SM. On the other, to construct a general effective lagrangian for rare B decays to extract the data in a model independent way and afterwards to classify a large set of models according to the predictions they give for the coefficients of the effective lagrangian. Training content (objective benefit and expected impact) The expected impact and benefit of the present proposal are to provide with a systematic analysis to determine where New Physics may be found in the B system and rare B decays and to identify and discriminate between the models that could be involved.
