Цел на проекта
Research objectives and content The aim of my project is to understand how different cell types arise from undifferentiated cells. The glide/gcm gene of Drosophila melanogaster is necessary during embryogenesis to promote the glial fate and to induce hemocyte differentiation. glide/gcm is expressed early and transiently in these lineages and encodes a novel nuclear factor. Since glide/gcm behaves as a master gene, I propose to determine its precise role. This will be achieved by characterizing the molecular organization of the glide/gcm locus in wildtype and mutants and by assessing the involvement of glide/gcm in adult development. The results of this project will allow a better understanding of glide/gcm mode of action and will shed light on the molecular bases of cell differentation. Training content (objective, benefit and expected impact) The project will be performed at IGBMC in the group of Dr. Giangrande, internationally known for the studies on gliogenesis of D. melanogaster. The IGBMC offers a superb training environment in molecular, cellular and developmental biology and it provides all the necessary facilities. The realization of the project will make it possible to improve my knowledge and experience in developmental biology, genetic and molecular biology. The possibility of getting my PhD in an outstanding research Institute is a unique opportunity to start a scientific career.
