Research objectives and content To develop, improve and apply three dimensional detection schemes with sub nansec. And sub 100 5m resolution for dissociative recombination studies at CRYRING in Stockholm and for general Ion Imaging applications. The developments will constitute a major improvement for the study of dissociative recombination, as it adds product state information on top of the absolute rate determinations. Dissociative recombination is a motor in interstellar chemistry and the sink of low energy electrons in planetary atmospheres. The CRYRING facility is present in Stockholm; the essential detector expertise is available at the FOM-Institute AMOLF. Training content (objective, benefit and expected impact) To be able to develop and apply detector technology of the future, which combines sub nanosecond timing resolution with sub 100 5m position resolution. in coincident detection techniques. In combination with the work of Dr. Van der Zande (AMOLF) and Dr. Larsson (Stockholm) I will be involved with the forefront studies of the physics of dissociative recombination. The combination of advanced technology in combination with a field in chemical physics which is of great importance for fields as atmospheric science, plantary science, forms an important gateway to future applications in academic positions. Links with industry / industrial relevance (22) Although no direct links have been esthablished; the development of an improvement 3-Dimensional detection scheme has the interest of industry. Informal talks are in progress.
