Накратко на български
Кристалите на мусковита в гранит от Ирландия се анализират чрез микроскопия и специални графики. Това помага да се разбере историята на магмата и процесите при образуването на минералните текстури.

Цел на проекта
Research objectives and content Crystal-growth principles will be applied, for the first time, to muscovite from the Leinster granite, SE Ireland. Detailed textural analysis will lead to deductions concerning the magmatic history of the muscovite and the nature of the granite magma. Muscovite will be studied in thin section (for textural contexts), in slice section (for growth and dissolution zone detection), by surface microtopography (SEM) and by Nomarski microscopy (detailed zone detection). Morphological analysis will include Wulff plot analysis to recover stationary growth habits (Sun and Baronnetl989) and to give qualitative growthkinematic data. Using digitised oscillatory zone sequences, a chaotic strange attractor will be sought to demonstrate if intensive-only factors acted on crystallisation. Comparisons with experimental growth phenomena characteristic of high temperature solutions and gels and between expected and observed mineral textures will be made. In the study of granite textures, all of these aspects are fresh and innovative. Training content (objective, benefit and expected impact) The objective is to acquire further technical skills through applying, in a novel way and in a geological context, crystalgrowth processes to muscovite textures in granite. The personal benefit will be advanced training in a range of crystal-surface imaging techniques and in chaos theory. Irish colleagues will gain a greater appreciation of the link between crystal-growth processes and observed mineral textures. Links with industry I industrial relevance (22)
