Цел на проекта
Research objectives and content Since the importance of marine animals as bio-indicators for studies aimed at assessing the condition of the environment and for habitat protection is well known, the aim of this postdoctoral research project, is to investigate by telemetry techniques, such as satellite tracking and data-loggers, 1) how a piniped species, the Antarctic fur seal (Arctocephalus gazella) search their environment for prey and may modify their route in relation to environmental clues, and 2) how major scale changes in environment conditions may affect the at sea behaviour, and thus the foraging success and the demography of the population. Training content (objective, benefit and expected impact) - complete my training: - in animal orientation process in relation to environmental factors, - foraging ecology of marine predators, - on bio-monitoring of marine environment by using marine predators, - improvement of my skills in using new telemetry device and in data processing. - the training provided by this post doctoral will improve my chances of finding a research-teaching position within the university. Links with industry / industrial relevance (22) The industrial relevance is the improvement of a data-logger developed by National Council of Research of Pisa and creation of new software that should lead to useful device in animal field studies built by an European industry and commercialised as other devices used in animal studies.
