Накратко на български
Манганитовите структури се изследват чрез създаване на слоеве от метал и изолатори за управление на спина на електроните. Това помага за разработването на по-ефективни сензори и четящи глави, които работят при много ниски магнитни полета.

Цел на проекта
Research objectives and content The recent discovery of colossal magnetoresistance (CMR) in manganese perovskites has boosted research on these compounds. Presently, a too high magnetic field is necessary in these materials to produce CMR, this feature being inadequate for magnetoresistive applications (read heads, sensors,...). The main objective of this project is to introduce manganese oxides into heterostructures in order to obtain giant magnetoresistive (GMR) ratios at very low magnetic fields by using the property of spin-polarized conduction that the manganese perovskites exhibit in the ferromagnetic metallic state. The heterostructures that will be studied include: i) (Manganite/Metal) multilayers for perpendicular GMR effects: the complete spin polarization of the conduction in manganites should lead to much higher effects than in conventional magnetic multilayers (purely metalic). ii) Tunnel junctions of the type (Manganite/Insulator/Manganite): spin-dependent tunnelling between ferromagnetic electrodes is a present 'hot topic' in magnetism. Large tunnel magnetoresistance is expected due to the spin-polarized nature of conduction in manganites. iii) Devices of the spin switch type including manganites: the Spin switch (or Spin transistor) is based on the same spin accumulation effects as the CPP-GMR effects, making that spin switch or other spin injection structures including manganites should be very promising devices. The central idea to apply for a TMR grant is to take advantage of the expertise on bulk manganites at Zaragoza and that at Orsay on magnetic heterostructures (multilayers and other nanostructures). Moreover, it is also of great interest to develop a more general collaboration between two European teams having complementary expertise. Training content (objective, benefit and expected impact) After a PhD on bulk magnetic materials, a research work on artificial magnetic heterostructures will represent an interesting complementary formation. Also, after a fundamental PhD research, it should be of great interest to work in a team closely linked to industrial research. Links with industry / industrial relevance (22)The Unite Mixte de Physique UMR137 of the CNRS is a joint laboratory of CNRS and Thomson-CSF. The research to develop by the TMR fellow will take place in close connection with more applied groups of Thomson-CSF.
