Накратко на български
Връзката между групи от земетресения при вулкана Етна и лабораторни опити с скали при симулация на вулканичен натиск се анализира тук. Това помага за количествен разбор на процесите при издигане на магма и началото на изригвания.

Цел на проекта
Research objectives and content The project focuses on the interrelationships between seismicity clustering properties at Etna volcano and laboratory experiments simulating volcano stress conditions. In order to distinguish the different processes operating on Etna volcano by studying seismicity, an integration of two different approaches is proposed. The application of non linear processes to the real sequence data will allow provide evidence for different scaling relations between earthquakes, while laboratory experiments on rock specimens, simulating volcanic stress conditions, will allow determination of critical parameters for a quantitative understanding of the relationships between seismicity and eruptive processes at long term (magma rise from depth); mid term (stress conditions of volcano edifice); short-term (eruption onsets). Training content (objective, benefit and expected impact)In coming to the Rock and Ice Physics Laboratory at University College of London I will have the chance to perform experiments simulating volcanic stress conditions. The Rock and Ice Physics group at University College London is one of the largest in the world, both in terms of its equipment base and in its number of personnel. It will undoubtedly provide the opportunity for me to significant improve my understanding of the dynamic mechanisms operating at Etna and consequently on other volcano edifices. In coming to the Benfield Greig Hazard Research Centre at University College of London I expect to substantially increase my knowledge of Etnean stress field evolution. The possibility of working together with personnel who have considerable experience in volcanoes monitoring and volcanoes hazard assessment, will provide me with increased experience in research related to the evaluation and mitigation of volcanic hazard and comparison with other monitoring techniques. In conclusion this project offers an excellent opportunity for developing my research career as a volcano geophysicist. Links with industry / industrial relevance (22)
