Накратко на български

Благородните газове в подземните води се анализират, за да се определят температурите от епохите Третичен и Мезозой. Това помага да се разбере дали тези газове са надежден индикатор за древния климат или данните се променят поради движението на водите.

Цел на проекта

Research objectives and content The study is focused on the reliability of noble gases to trace climatic conditions in the Tertiary and Mesozoic. Noble gases are a precise thermometer of the past temperature variations, which reflect one aspect of a changing climate. The principle of the noble gas palaeothermometry is that the solubility of noble gases in water is temperature dependent. The temperature at which the groundwater was equilibrated with the atmosphere can be calculated from the concentration of the dissolved atmospheric noble gases in a dated groundwater. To date, this method has been only used for Quaternary climatic reconstructions. The main cause of this limitation is a lack of knowledge on whether the noble gas palacolimatic record can be preserved in an quifer or smoothed by hydrologic processes such as flow dipesrion and water mixing. We propose to calibrate the noble gas paleoclimatic record over independent marine and continental paleoclimatic proxies (such as the stable isotopers of oxygen and hydrogen in marine fauna) in order to evaluate the degree to which the noble gas record is influenced by these hydrologic processes. Training content (objective, benefit and expected impact) The objective of the training is the planning and management of a multi-disciplinary project in which the trainee has to be able to integrate his previous knowledge in noble gas geochemistry with different fields of Earth Sciences, such as palaeoclimatology and stable isotope geochemistry. The expected benefits for the trainee are both technical and in science management. Links with industry / industrial relevance (22)
