Цел на проекта
Research objectives and content Recent research in monetary history confirmed that the gold standard worked successfully for the core countries on the classical gold standard. The interaction within and between the core countries (strictly followed the gold standard) and the peripheral countries (shadowed the system) offer a fruitful area of research. Comparisons can be made on a wide range of economic subjects including inflation volatility, seigniorage, exchange rate analysis and risk premia on long-term securities during the periods of convertibility and suspension for both core and peripheral countries. Therefore, this project proposes studies on the classical gold standard and its performance for the core - the northwestern European countries - and the periphery - Scandinavia and the Southem European countries of Spain, Italy and Portugal. Training content (objective, benefit and expected impact) The purpose of this research is to provide additional insight into the operation of the classical gold standard in the core and peripheral countries of Europe. The relevance of the proposal is not only of interest to economic historians but to policy makers in the European Community. The conclusions drawn from it have implications for the current economic issues that are taking place in Europe nowadays related to the European Monetary System. Furthermore, this project will expand my knowledge for future academic research and add to my statistical tools. Links with industry / industrial relevance (22)
