Накратко на български
Разработват се нови методи за създаване на азиридини чрез метални катализатори, които да помогнат при синтеза на веществото епибатидин. Тези съединения са важни за производството на чисти фармацевтични продукти и препарати за земеделието.

Цел на проекта
The aim of the proposal is to try and develop a new catalytic cycle for the asymmetric synthesis of aziridines from electron rich and deficient alkenes. Aziridines are important because the products are versatile synthetic intermediates in the synthesis of agrochemicals and pharmaceuticals and because of the growing demand to produce enantiomerically pure compounds. The key to our strategy involves designing novel catalytic processes which exploit the weak nature of N-heteroatom bonds and use metal salts as catalysts to control the process. As reactions will only occur on metal templates, correct juxtaposition of chiral ligands around the metal should allow the development of an enantioselective process. We also wish to exploit this chemistry in the synthesis of epibatidine - a compound with potential for treament of mental illnesses.
