Research objectives and contentThe research I plan to undertake at CERAS have the following objectives:(i) to analyse empirically and theoretically the nature of competition in urban residential markets; in this respect, I wish to conduct a comparative study of the working of the residential market in a few European cities (Amsterdam, Paris versus Brussels and London where the market work more freely);(ii) to study the strategic interactions between property owners as a possible factor explaining both economic efficiency and equity losses;(iii) to propose some policy prescriptions aiming at a better regulation of residential markets.I will extend the model developed in my doctoral dissertation in which differences in neighbourhood amenities are the source of imperfect competition between property owners. I will test empirically the model on data on rents and housing units in Paris using hedonic methods.Training content (objective, benefit and expected impact)Expertise and quality in urban economics is high at CERAS: J. Thisse - who has accepted to supervise my research - P-P. Combes, R. Benou Y. Zinou are all recognized international scientists in this field.Moreover, two weekly Economic Theory seminars are held at ENPC, rue des Saints-Peres.Hence, I can clearly expect huge training benefits from my stay in ParisLinks with industry / industrial relevance (22)
