Research objectives and contentThe central object of investigation is to make gender part of a theoretical and empirical framework for welfare state analysis. To examine the welfare state as a possible system of inequality and stratification in gender relations. Spain is the case study, situated in the context of the range of cross-national European variation in welfare states and gender relations.I set out the research proposal by suggesting two main questions:.To what extent -and in which way- does the social protection system in Spain affect gender differently in terms of outcomes for men and women;.and what are the potential factors that explain that degree of gender difference.The project is oriented to the consolidating gender agenda of the EC, the purpose is twofold. One is to refine current European research on gender regimes. Equally important is the attempt to assess the influence of European Union policies and directives on the institutional structures of the Spanish welfare state. One central analytical interest will be the impact of the European Court of Justice and Equality Directive resolutions and its role in defining the parameters of EU intervention in the social dimension.Training content objective, benefit and expected impact)This project hopes to contribute to a wider understanding of gender and welfare states relationship in Europe, to the debate of the viability, from a gender perspective, of established models of social protection and the consequences of the European integration for gender related issues within national contextsLinks with industry / industrial relevance (22)NOT APPLICABLE
