Limited-duration doctoral training positions are available at a multi-partner Marie Curie Site devoted to Environmental Turbulence, involving the following organizations: Department of Aeronautics, Imperial College (UK); Laboratoire de Mecanique des Fluides et d'Acoustique, Ecole Centrale de Lyons (F); Environment Institute, Joint Research Centre (European Commission, Italy); J.M Burgers Centre, Delft University of Technology (NL); and Institut de Mécanique des Fluides de Toulouse (F). Candidates are sought with an interest in either measurement or modeling of turbulence in the environment. Training in experimental, numerical and theoretical aspects of turbulence will be provided in the following areas: geophysical flows including atmospheric boundary layer flows and marine turbulence, dispersed two-phase flows, numerical simulations of turbulent flows (DNS, LES, KS). Closure strategies for RANS, evaluation and simulation of field turbulence data, pollutant transport and dispersion, and statistical turbulence modeling. Fellows will be appointed to the participating organization whose research activities match the interest and experience of the candidate. Candidates should be studying for a University doctoral degree in a related field and wish to gain specific training in one or more of the above areas from an internationally recognized group. Length of the training period varies from three months to an academic year. A subsistence allowance of 1200 Euros per month will be provided, as well as initial and final travel expenses.
