The acoustic source distribution of most real random sources is very complicated. Many types of vehicles are exposed to this type of noise that affects interior comfort and can be a substantial importance to safety. The sound transmission properties of aircraft and automotive structures are characterized by flight-testing or wind tunnels experiments. Due to the complexity and cost of these methods, scientist are starting to think about building test facilities that simulates the characteristics of turbulent boundary layer pressure field. This reproduction has been tried previously, concluding that, due to the electrical and mechanical requirements necessary for the practical implementation of the simulation systems, there was not a satisfactory substitute for the turbulent layer of air. Recently, a new methodology has been proposed for the reproduction of the sound distribution, using an array of acoustic actuators. The initial conclusions are that there is not fundamental reason why the reproduction should not be feasible, but there is additional work that has to be done before this technique can be used in practice. Using these preliminary results as a starting point, more work will be developed to obtain reliable methods of noise estimation. The aim of the proposed research is then to study the feasibility of the simulation in laboratory experiments.
