In our research group we are offering an excellent possibility to perform doctoral work in the area of polymer science. Synthetic chemistry in the field of e.g.carbazole-based class of monomers and their further polymerization to novel macromolecular materials for electronic and photovoltaic applications will be completed by their full spectrochemical, thermal and mechanical analysis to find structure-property relationship. The carbazole group is one of the most interesting chromophores in photochemistry and have been the subject of many investigations. Particularly, poly(N-vinylcarbazole) (PVCz) has been applied in a number of devices, for instance , as a photoreceptor in electrophotographic recording materials, such as copying films or offset printing plates. In our previous studies it has been shown that other N-carbazole-containing polymers have shown even better whole transport, photo- and electro luminescent (EL) properties despite of the lower content of carbazole chromophores. An extensive research work will be proposed in the area of conducting polymers; one of the most important being polyaniline (PANI) - conjugated polymer of current interest as electronic, electrochemical and nonlinear optical materials. PANI has attracted considerable attention because of its relatively good environmental stability and the control of the electronic and optical properties by the level of oxidation and protonation. However, due to strong interchain interactions associated with a spatially extended p bonding system, PANI, as all the conjugated systems, is nearly insoluble and cannot be melted. This serious technological drawback was tried to be overcome since the beginning of conducting polymer research, with first successful attempts by counterion-induced processability; as a result an increase of the number of appropriate functional groups of the counter ion should lead to better processability and novel applications of PANI.
