A post-doctoral fellowship is available in the DNA Damage Response group in the Department of Biochemsitry, at the National University of Ireland, Galway, Ireland. Our laboratory investigates the mechanisms by which genome stability is maintained in eukaryotic cells, as part of an ongoing development in this research area at NUI, Galway. We are focusing on the human disease xeroderma pigmentosumvariant (XPV), in which a mutation in the RAD30 gene leads to extreme sensitivity to UV-induced skin cancer. The applicant will investigate the role of the RAD30gene product, DNA polymerase etc., in replication of UV-damaged DNA, and the link between replication arrest and activation of cell cycle checkpoints in XPV cells. The successful applicant will have expertise in molecular and cellular biology. In particular, experience in the development and use of regulated gene epxression systems in mammalian cells, and in cell cycle analysis using flow cytometry would be an advantage. The applicant, who should have a good knowledge of English, will play a leading role in the research of the DNA Damage Response group, and collaborate with researchers at national and international research centres.
