RESEARCH TRAINING AT THE UNIVERSITY OF NOTTINGHAM, UK TRAMWASE - TRANSPORT OF MATERIALS IN THE WATER, AIR AND SOIL ENVIRONMENTS Applications are invited from current doctoral students in the environmental sciences to participate in a period of training (3-12 months) in the application of integrated techniques to the transport of both biological and inert materials between water, air and soil. The research student will join a multispecialist group working on many aspects of the movement of hazardous or toxic materials in the environment. These include the transport and deposition of radionuclides and other substances in the atmosphere, the movement of such materials in soil-water and their uptake by vegetation, the emission of such materials from soils and water, and overall material budgets and fates. There would be possibilities for working in extreme environments such as Antarctica. Your research topic at Nottingham would be devised so as to form an integral part of your overall research training programme. You would be working with one supervisor (a member of academic staff of the Environmental Science Research Group at Nottingham) and would interact with other disciplines to develop an improved overall perspective on your research specialty. You would also attend a programme of generic training, individually tailored to improve your education and skills in key areas of environmental science. An extensive range of postgraduate training courses, including English Language if appropriate, is available. The University is one of the top UK Universities for teaching and research, and occupies an attractive campus close to the historic city of Nottingham.
